Volunteer & Internship Opportunities

Communication Works (CW) is a growing practice in the Bay Area that specializes in providing speech therapy, occupational therapy and self-regulation services to children and adults. We offer an excellent internship program for graduate students and Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) students who need to complete their practicum hours. We also offer volunteer opportunities for all interested college students and other interested adults.

CW has a well regarded Center that conducts social communication services, group and individual therapy for adults and children with social-cognitive deficits as well as other speech and language, occupational and self-regulation needs. Volunteers and interns will observe and assist either a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) or Occupational Therapist (OT) facilitate groups of 3-4 clients focusing on pragmatic language and/or self- regulation skills. Volunteers will also be asked to help with the planning and development of therapy material related to the Center and its therapy groups. Other opportunities include center based early intervention and various school site internships assisting licensed speech-language pathologists.

Communication Works requires a minimum three-month commitment from volunteers. Center schedule includes once or twice a week, three to four hour blocks within the hours of 11:00am to 7:30pm Monday-Saturday. With that commitment, CW offers training and mentorship programs with ongoing career guidance. We are dedicated to supporting and encouraging the SLPs, SLPAs and OTs of the future and helping to educate and support the community.
