In The Community

Communication Works (CW) takes pride in giving back to local organizations, schools, parent groups, and

communities. Throughout the year, we support the efforts and missions of various nonprofit organizations through presentations, fundraising, event participation, sponsorships, website/newsletter acknowledgements, and overall awareness.

CW “Sponsors” a Family

Through various Sponsor-A-Family programs, CW sponsors a local low-income family in need every year by helping them make the transition to self-sufficiency. CW is grateful to have the opportunity to make an investment in the lives of families in need by providing donations.

CW Walks for Autismautism walk

Walk Now for Autism, sponsored by Autism Speaks, the nation’s largest grassroots autism walk program, is its signature fundraising and awareness event. Powered by volunteers and families with loved ones on the autism spectrum, this successful grassroots fundraising effort generates vital funds for autism research and also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder. In the past several years, CW has raised several thousands of dollars for this organization and has been recognized as being a top five fundraiser. We invite our CW clients and their families to make their own commitment to create a team or join ours for the next walk.

Halloween for Hunger Food Drive

CW’s Halloween for Hunger Food Bank bin is placed in our waiting room during the holiday as our therapists, clients, and families are encouraged to collect food donations of non-perishable items. We work with the Alameda County Community Food Bank to help fight local hunger and poverty and to raise awareness about challenges facing millions of Americans, many of whom are children.

Annual Free Screenings

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month. To raise awareness about communication disorders and promote treatment, CW provides annual free speech-language, occupational therapy, and social screenings for children 18 months to 18 years. Information, practical tips, and resources for encouraging language development are also available at the screening.

School District Fundraisers

CW has coordinated fundraisers with local school districts to benefit various special needs programs, from joint fundraising efforts with other local businesses to sponsoring teachers and/or therapists to attend specialized conferences.

Parent and Professional Organization Support Group Talks

CW participates in support group talks for parents and professional and medical organizations across Alameda and Contra Costa counties, including Asperger’s Resource Support Group in Walnut Creek, CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), YMCA (Oakland and Berkeley locations), Ann Martin Center, The Community Advisory Committee (CAC), and Autism Family Support Project in Concord.
