The Hanen Program®
More than Words®Program
The program includes five to six families and is lead by a Hanen® Certified Speech and Language Pathologist who specializes in working with children with Autism.
The program lasts 7 weeks and includes:
- In–home pre-program consultation to assess communication level and baseline videotaping
- Four group training sessions for parents
- Two individual, in-home, video feedback sessions with parent and child
- Written report with recommendations and guidance for continued practice and generalization.
What is More than Words®?
More than Words®, the Hanen Program® for parents, is a family-focused program for groups of parents with young children who have autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and related social communication difficulties. More than Words® is based on years of research and shows the need for early language intervention as well as the importance of parental involvement in the intervention process.
Through a combination of group sessions and individual consultation using videotaping and feedback, More than Words ® helps parents learn how to create and take advantage of everyday opportunities to promote their child’s communication and language development.
The program is geared for parents of children with communication difficulties. Children range from nonverbal communicators to using single words and starting to combine words and whose ages range from 18 months to 5 years.
