More Than Words® Program

More Than Words is a Hanen Program that is family-focused for groups of parents/caregivers with young children who have autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and related social communication difficulties. More Than Words is based on years of research that shows the need for early language intervention as well as the importance of parent/caregiver involvement in the intervention process. 

Our Program

Through a combination of group sessions and individual consultation using videotaping and feedback, Communication Works' More Than Words ® program helps parents/caregivers learn how to create and take advantage of everyday opportunities to promote their child’s social communication and language development. 

Our program includes 5–6 families and is led by a Hanen® certified speech-language pathologist who specializes in working with children with autism spectrum disorders and related social learning challenges.

The 7-week Program Includes

• In–home pre-program consultation to assess communication level as well as baseline videotaping
• 4 group training sessions for parents/caregivers
• 2 individual, in-home, video feedback sessions with parent/caregiver and child
• Written report with recommendations and guidance for continued practice and generalization

Structure

The program is geared for parent/caregivers of children with communication difficulties. Children may be 18 months to 5 years old and range from nonverbal communicators to those using single words and starting to combine words. Options are available for in-home and individual sessions.
