Social Language Groups (SLG)
Communication Works provides therapists who work individually and in small groups to provide social skills training for a variety of students with language and social deficits.
How Social Therapy Works
We teach our students how to be more successful in social settings. Group participants will learn basic social skills to enhance interactions and relationships with those in their environments. Many of the themes and activities we use in our groups are pulled from leading experts in the areas of social pragmatics and awareness skills. The skills we develop and teach are essential for success in developing pro-social relationships. Instruction and practice in these areas will aid in building self-esteem. We feel that regardless of their diagnosis, people with social cognitive deficits desire to have meaningful social interactions. It is our goal to provide an environment in which they can learn skills to develop and maintain these relationships.
We run groups according to age level (3 years to adult) and diagnosis that focus on:

- Perspective Taking and Flexibility
- Non-verbal and Verbal Communication Skills
- Problem Solving and Negotiating Awareness of Social Cues
- Emotions and Self-control
- Group Dynamics and More
