Lead Therapist/Coordinator:

Communication Works in Oakland, California is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced therapist to fill a full time (30-40 hour/week) Lead Therapist/Coordinator position.  We specialize is speech, language, social learning and self-regulation for infants to adults. We are best known for our group work, parent/professional education and early intervention. Part-time Occupational Therapist:

Communication Works in Oakland, California is seeking a motivated and dynamic occupational therapist to fill a part-time position. We are currently looking for a therapist interested in per diem work with the interest in potentially increasing hours work to full time employment.  We specialize in self-regulation, speech, language, and social learning for infants to adults. We are best known for our group work, parent/professional education and early intervention but are looking to grow our OT department and offer a wider array of traditional OT pediatric therapy to compliment our current services. The ideal candidate would be interested in expanding their skill base to address self-regulation with students focusing on fostering skills in emotional regulation, executive functioning and social thinking/cognition, as well as assist in growing our services to include more services in assessment, motor skill development and sensory integration techniques. We are passionate about supporting our community and looking to expand what our clinic can offer with the support of a therapist who is the right fit to our collaborative team.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy, NBCOT certification and licensure in CA
  • Strong therapeutic skills
  • Confidence with training parents
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills
  • Background or interest in autism spectrum disorders and social learning
  • Background in early intervention

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments
  • Provide therapeutic services
  • Work collaboratively with other therapists on occupational therapy program development

Mentorship:

Communication Works is offering a mentorship program for a recent graduate or licensed occupational therapist interested in learning about self-regulation in the pediatric population.  Prior experience working with students on the autism spectrum and/or behavior challenges is preferred.  

The ideal candidate would be interested in expanding their skill base to address self-regulation with students focusing on fostering skills in emotional regulation, executive functioning and sensory integration using the Zones of Regulation curriculum (being published in 2010) by Leah M. Kuypers, MA Ed., OTR/L.  The mentorship would include working directly with Leah to gain a deeper understanding of The Zones curriculum and theory behind it, progressing toward running your own individual and group therapy sessions for students who struggle with self-regulation at CW.

CW supports clients, families, schools and communities in providing effective and innovative occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and social learning interventions using the Social Thinking curriculum of Michelle Garcia Winner, as well as curriculum from other well known experts in the autism field such as the following: Stanley Greenspan (DIR/Floortime), Barry Prizant (The SCERTS Model), Kari Dunn Buron (The Incredible 5-Point Scale).
